Being based in the city rather than near it is the practical difference on an urgent job: most of Wolverhampton is inside twenty minutes of the yard, and the Black Country is close behind.
What to have ready
It speeds things up considerably if you can tell us:
- What is happening and where, inside or outside, which fixture, which drain.
- Whether any manholes are surcharging, and roughly where they are.
- Whether the drainage is shared with neighbours.
- Whether it has happened before, and how often. Repeat blockages usually mean something structural, and that changes what we bring.
- Access, locked gates, parking, dogs.
For a survey, it also helps to know why you need it: a purchase, a build-over application, an insurance claim or a dispute each change what the report needs to cover.
Before you ring, one thing worth checking
If your drainage is shared with neighbours, or the blockage is beyond your property boundary, it is very likely Severn Trent’s to clear at no cost to you. Since the 2011 private sewer transfer, most shared drainage stopped being the householder’s responsibility.
If several properties on the same run are affected, ring Severn Trent first. If you are not sure, ring us, and if we arrive and find it is theirs, we will tell you rather than invoice you for it.
Worth knowing across much of this area: South Staffs Water supplies the drinking water but does not handle sewerage. For a drainage problem, Severn Trent is the right number.
What we do, and what we don’t
We carry out CCTV drain surveys and drain unblocking and jetting.
We do not carry out drain repairs, relining or excavation. That is deliberate: it means when a survey says a drain needs work, we have nothing to gain from saying so.
